Does your paint settle after storage?
If you have this problem, simply increasing the viscosity may not be the right solution.
In solvent-based coatings, sedimentation can be related to pigment density, dispersion stability, and rheological control.
When the formulation doesn't have enough low-shear viscosity, pigments and fillers can gradually settle during storage.
This is where an organoclay rheology modifier can be useful.
Organoclay can build a three-dimensional structure in the coating, helping improve suspension and anti-settling performance.
But choosing the right organoclay is important.
Compatibility with the solvent system, activation method, dosage, and formulation all matter.
So, if your coating has a settling problem, don't just look at viscosity. Look at the whole rheology system.
